Template talk:Commandline

This template doesn't seem to work with shell scripts with pipes in it.

TIP Watch emerge progress had a line at the bottom about sending the output to xosd, but it didn't show up because of the pipe.

Html charcter entities may need to be used for this template. So far:

  Charcter Html Entity
Equal Sign Written As = =
Displayed As {{{1}}} =
Vertical Bar Written As | |
Displayed As |

Perhaps nowiki should be added to this template. Any thoughts?

You cannot use <nowiki> inside template pages, I don't think. I'll copy this tip to FAQ Write an Article, though. -Tro 17:52, 12 May 2005 (GMT)

I'm sorry I wasn't clear, nowiki should proabaly be added to the example usage, and all places where this template is used. --GBob 12:04, 13 May 2005 (GMT)

[edit] Why don't we use a box?

This template doen't look very attractive to me. Shouldn't commandlines displayed like:

tcpdump -l > /dev/dsp

instead of just:

tcpdump -l > /dev/dsp

Not just the monospace-font is more attractive in the first example. --Barachiel 22:06, 7 January 2006 (GMT)
