This is a script that needs some work. I hope someone finds it useful or makes it better.

[edit] Love it

Great little script, worked like a charm the first time i ran it.

It would be nice to have a bit more output by default for the dvdbackup portion (-v higher), but maybe that's just a personal preference.

[edit] "dvd larger than 4,5GB"(dvd9?)

i'm traveling a lot so... i copy /dev/cdrom (the dvd) into my notebook hard-drive and i run xine dvd://thedvdlocation but i had problem with several strange dvd

in mc the files of theses "dvd9" can't be copied to the hdd but the dvd can be read normaly =>is there a solution??? do i need to create an image that i can mount with some tools?

there are linux programs that doesn't need wine...

-Like what? Will they preserve menus? Will they copy encrypted DVDs? Please post something useful for the rest of us to build off of.

My mate referred me to this: http://dvdshrink.sourceforge.net/index.html

Looks promising, but I am far from a good bash scripter :).

There is a program called tovid, (tovid.sourceforge.net) which will do much of video conversion (as a front end to mplayer/mencoder or ffmpeg). Author: please contact foo _at_ systems.net.au

Why not use k9copy? I have not used it but I think it compresses, and with menus
