This should be adapted from just jabber and gpg to using gaim with gaim-encryption and the silc-client.

Don't forget the OTR Plugin for Gaim and Kopete!

silc-client is intended to do chatting, not instant messaging. Nevertheless Gaim with the OTR plugin is a very important alternative to the method described here as it is really easy (compared to this). However, I'm no longer a Gentoo user, so I could just write a general tutorial how to do that.
