Talk:News:2007-12-14 - Wiki Database Server Hacked

From Gentoo Linux Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

If the server got compromised and you have not determined the source of intrusion, the server should be reinstalled and all software upgraded to latest versions before coming live. ( Well, it is the same even if you found out the source ) Because when someone gets access to server once, you cannot know all the left backdoors on the system. hayalci 17:08, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit]

It's sickening how people have nothing better to do than destroy a volunteer website.

[edit]

Why gentoo-wiki? why not microsoft.com?

[edit]

Agreed completely. If someone has this page: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_HP_tx1000 in cache, I'm very interrested (I spent a few hours working on this howto and just lost everything) Vineus

[edit]

Script kiddies, use other people's tools, and have no intelligence of their own. They will never get girlfriends, or succeed in life, so they destroy things for other people. Pathetic.

[edit]

Vineus Try to restore this page from google cache

Erdem -> OK I restored the page from the google cache. You can go on your work :o

[edit]

jdmulloy (3-3-2008): Does this really need to be on the front page still? It's been a few months.

[edit] Crap...

OMG, I'm very sad to hear this... I'm not going to blame anyone, but this are not good news to hear...

Go on, G-w team!

[edit] Come on...

How many times has this site been hacked? Maybe you guys should start thinking about SECURITY :-/

[edit] What's better than this hacker?

  • Used car salesmen
  • Unprincipled lawyers
  • That creepy uncle and his "hugs"
  • Pond scum
  • Sadistic dentists

What's he on par with?

  • Child molesting terrorists who sell drugs to pregnant women.

[edit] How terrible

This is one of my favorite sites. Good thing this site has a good admin that does backups (unlike some admins I've known).

[edit] if i could help

i would like to help in security part this site is so vital to me

[edit] Hacked?

At least as far as I was able to understand, the server wasn't hacked. It was cracked.

May someone fix the title of the note available in the front page of the wiki, please? (I'd do it myself, as I am sure that "hacked" is completely wrong to describe the situation, but I'd like to hear some opinions and know why was that word used, before changing anything.)

[edit] security

I have a friend that could help you figure out how to secure the server better. He is a hacker and would hack it, with written permission, and tell you where the holes are. Email me if you want to get in contact with them. DL200010@gmail.com

[edit] This site rocks

This is one of the best sites IMHO with so many detailed instructions. I've been able to put together a few servers using the howtos on this site. Keep up the excellent work G-W
