Yes it should.

At the 13. December 2005, it gives something like :

Accept the keywords for the following packages (/etc/portage/package.keywords) [maybe you will replace some version]: =dev-lang/php-5* =app-admin/eselect-php-0.96 =app-admin/eselect-0.9.6 =app-text/aspell-0.60.2 =dev-php/PEAR-PEAR-1.3.6* =dev-php/PEAR-Archive_Tar-1.3* =dev-php/PEAR-Console_Getopt-1.2* =dev-php/PEAR-XML_RPC-1.4.3* =dev-php/PEAR-XML_RPC-1.4.4

and then

USE="pear xml2" emerge -av dev-lang/php
