Regarding the KDE screen saver problem - Debian has a package that lets KDE use the X screen saver (you can choose the X screen saver from the KDE screen saver selection screen, just as any other). Maybe we can use a similar method in Gentoo somehow?

You can do this in Gentoo as well, turn off KDE screen saver and set up the X one (I think), but that part was mostly for people who are using the KDE screensaver.

That's not really the same thing. In the Debian way, you get KDE to manage the X screen saver for you (you can set it through KControl).

Yeah okay, I've never looked into this, so I don't know the package. But I added the section in case you were using KDE screensaver and were happy with it.

And I'm thankful for that. Just wondering if there's a way to mimic the Debian behavior here.

Anyone having problems with pre6a-r4? Here, it does not recognize the ffmpeg library which is pretty bad. pre7 works nicely but is still marked as 'unstable'... Cinquero 17:07, 8 Aug 2005 (GMT)

I vaguely remember having problems w/ mplayer before it was bumped to -pre7. You may just want to echo "=media-video/mplayer-1.0_pre7" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords just to unmask -pre7, but when other bumps come along, they wont be affected. -- MighMoS 17:19, 8 Aug 2005 (GMT)
Maybe we should put that piece of information as a warning on top of the mplayer howto?
Sounds like a pretty isolated incident to me. Besides, if the current version of the software doesn't work, the next logical step is always to try the unstable version. No different here. SDibb 13:50, 26 August 2005 (GMT)
