2005-07-28 - Categories, Indexes, Headers and Atomizing

The Gentoo Wiki has now gotten sufficiently big enough that articles are becoming harder to find and are also beginning to become HUGE. Thanks to everyone for helping the wiki becme this big

Because of its large size the admins are going to begin making some changes to make the wiki easier to use and easier to browse.

Categories

to help make things easier to use and easier to find I am starting to actually use the categories more and I would ask that whenever you edit any future articles add in 1 or 2 categories, they all need 1 or 2.. make up some if you need to (SMTP, Mail, Video, etc... come to mind)

Indexes

Much like what I was doing when i started the Apache Consolidation we will be doing for other sets of related articles and posting these indexes on the Index:Index which is now listed on the Categories navigation bar

Article Atomizing

I'm also starting to atomize some of the articles; some of the articles have gotten huge and need to be chunked up, see what i did with the Apache2 Index, I hope to do this with many more, The main reason I'm doing this is to prevent what happened to the apache related articles; they ALL told you how to install/configure Apache and each was a little different. this is happening all over; they should be grouped. and the admins will be helping in the clean up

Cool Factor

Headers... need I say more? check out the 3 new indexes to see what was done; feel free to make more indexes BTW

Also anyone may add more images to the wiki contrary to popular beleif the wiki currently has a large excess of unused bandwidth
