Mepis
From Gentoo Linux Wiki
www.Mepis.org Mepis is a GNU/Linux Distro based on Debian and or Ubuntu (depending on which version). Mepis has established a reputation for excellent hardware detection and ease of use.
It uses the Synaptic apt-get package manger. The default desktop is kde, but others are available.
Note: From the Mepis FAQ:
1. Why did you create MEPIS Linux?
I was a frustrated user. For 3 years I tried Corel, Mandrake, SuSE,
Redhat, and Mandrake again. Finally I gave up.
On November 21, 2002, I decided that to have a desktop that worked
the way I thought a computer should work, I'd have to do it myself.

codeslinger.compsalot says: Mepis is a Great general purpose distro, but it lacks the low level power and flexibility of Gentoo.... However, it also lacks the complexity of Gentoo ^-o
