K3b

K3b is a CD and DVD burning application for Linux systems optimized for KDE.

  • If K3b claims that cdrecord and cdrdao can't be run as root:
  1. Follow the instructions in HOWTO ATAPI CD Burning#Managing the groups and permissions
  2. Run chmod ug+s /usr/bin/cdrecord /usr/bin/cdrdao
  • If you cannot find the "k3bsetup" utility try emerging with the "kde" flag set.
  • If you plan on recording vcd's, make sure you emerge vcdimager as follows (xml flag is required while compiling it):
  1. Make sure to add xml and xml2 to either your USE flags (/etc/make.conf), or more preferably, run: echo "media-video/vcdimager xml xml2" >> /usr/portage/portage.use
  2. Run: emerge -av media-video/vcdimager
  3. Goto Settings->configure k3b->Programs Icon, and click search while vcdxbuild; then xvcdxminfo; then xvcdxrip is selected.
