Gentoo Linux Wiki talk:Copyrights

Unless otherwise stated, the content of this wiki is in public domain. That means that anyone can take any
information from here, modify it, and redistribute it however they see fit without need for
attribution.

And

If the author has not specified a license, you must get their permission before you can reproduce it on this
wiki (if no license is specified, the author has full rights to their work). It is recommended
that a link to the original article be made even if the original author clears the article of any copyright.

These are clearly in contradiction to eachother... Also, I disagree with putting the content into public domain without any protection. I suggest that the content of Gentoo-wiki be placed under the CC license, so this documentation is compatible with the rest of the Gentoo project.

These don't contradict each other. "The author" in the second bit refers to the case, where an article written by someone somewhere else on the Web gets "imported" into the wiki. The original author has full copyright, so you have to clear it with him/her before posting it on this wiki. Once it's here, you can specify a license, and if you don't, it's in public domain. At least that's how I understand it. You have to talk to Thrasher if you want the content to be licensed by default. You could try making your case on the mailing lists. -TRO talkcontribs 22:46, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
