Is there an interwiki map somewhere around here? If so, I haven't found it. I've been able to guess some links that work (such as the one in the previous sentence), but it would be nice to see an official list. - dcljr 06:05, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

There's a pretty good list here. TRO talkcontribs 02:40, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
I think you actually meant the page that I linked to above. Is that the list we're using here at this site? Each wiki is free to use their own interwiki abbreviations, after all... - dcljr 22:01, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Hmm. Looks like you need to be able to query the database directly to find out. I'll ask Thrasher. TRO talkcontribs 02:33, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Not sure if this has been answered elsewhere, but for those stumbling across this later, the interwiki list for this wiki (and any wiki running mediawiki software is at Special:Interwiki. As usual, with Mediawiki, captilization is take it or leave it. jwagner 22:51, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] update-modules MAN page

I've updated the name of MAN update-modules but now it doesn't find the man page and I don't know how to add it.. --Gionnico 15:42, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

The wiki can only display man pages installed on the server it's installed on. In this case, it's going to be far better to provide a redirect page for the duration of the transition and monitor it. I'm going to set this up now.

PS. I can only assume this change is something that's happening in the upcoming 3.3 release as I'm using the latest version of module-init-tools available in portage and there's no such man page at all.

I use 3.2.2-r2 and at boot time i receive a yellow warning: "Please run 'update-modules' from now on; 'modules-update' is going away" ... and I have got the new man page, too .. --Gionnico 14:20, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
I just checked the changelog for the package, and it seems those changes were made without a revision bump. Since there's now -r3, all users should be upgrading to the new setup from now on. I'm running some updates now and will check, but my guess is that it's basically the same man page, just moved to a new location, so the redirect system I put in place should work fine.

[edit] Users adding vast amounts of external links - deceitful spam or valid content?

I've been revising the Toshiba laptop articles and have encountered a bunch of edits that have the stench of spam. Examples are: http://gentoo-wiki.com/Special:Contributions/Wehe http://gentoo-wiki.com/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&limit=500&target=Battery These links appear to add little value to the wiki and in my own opinion are simply an attempt to increase search engine rankings. Should we be removing these links or are they valid additions? --Cav 04:51, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

I'd say this diff reveals the true nature of these contributions (first contribution was a non-sequitur external link added to a talk page). All of Battery's contributions have already been removed; it looks like most of Wehe's has, as well. - dcljr 19:02, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Featured Articles

Just wondering, how are featured articles on the main page selected? --GBob 19:31, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
