[edit] Trouble scrolling
I'm having trouble scrolling on virtually all the Wiki pages. Scrolling using the wheel or the scroll bar is very sluggish and eats lots of CPU. Scrolling seems to be especially pernicous on pages with lots of marquee-bordered text elements. Looks to be a Firefox bug (tried some 1.5 rc-s and 1.5.0.3), but I can't really find anything relevant in the firefox bugzilla. Makes browsing the Wiki a horrible experience. :-(
Scrolling is a lot smoother in Epiphany 1.8.3 and Mozilla 1.7.12, but I really prefer FF.
Just looking to see if anybody else is seeing this FF bug, so this is not really a bug report of the Wiki itself. Jel 07:17, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Update
- The problem seems to be related to the Google Ads sidebar. I saved the html file locally, deleted the sidebar <div> and scrolling was as smooth as ever. Jel 07:17, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Bug resolved
- I don't know if it's because of the new Wiki version or if they fixed something in Firefox 1.5.0.4, but the scrolling bug is gone now. Jel 07:17, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
If you have this problem or want to speed up the scrolling function in most broken sites, there's an easy workaround: add * { background-attachment: scroll !important; } into ~/gnome2/epiphany/user-stylesheet.css for Epiphany. You should find the file userContent.css for Firefox and Seamonkey. --Gh 07:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Alignment problems
I'm using IE5.00 on a 1024x768 screen here at work and almost every page's content is being pushed "below the fold" (off the bottom of the visible screen) to start just below the ads on the right side of the screen. Changing the font size doesn't help. Needless to say, this makes the site very annoying to use... - dcljr 21:55, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- IE 5 is your problem, it being so old and non standards compliant. Try firefox, or even use Linux (you're at the right site!) 75.100.155.110 03:42, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Captcha trouble
.. or however the "show funny words in unreadable format even to human eyes" software is called again ;)
- I have two problems with this software:
- See my description of it.. It took me 5 guesses to finally get a word that was readable enough to get it right.
- The picture itself doesn't show up in Windows Firefox 1.5.0.7 (the current version as of writing this.. Thus submitted with *shudder* MSIE)

- Captcha images don't show up in Firefox 2.0 either

[edit] OpenSearch compatibility
Firefox 2 is now OpenSearch compliant, meaning that compliant pages that include search engines (including all MediaWiki deployments) are automatically detected and can be easily added to your search engine list.
Gentoo-wiki.com advertises itself as a compliant site. However (probably because of your use of mod_rewrite) the OpenSearch URL (http://gentoo-wiki.com/opensearch_desc.php) is not available - it redirects to a non-existing wiki page.
(Also, the server doesn't seem to be running ntp, but that's not a real problem as it's only about 8 minutes early.)

- Great - OpenSearch problem solved. Thanks.

- What was the problem? I'm trying to add a search plugin via opensearch_desc.php on my Wiki but FF2 says it can not open the URL. I have no problem opening the URL directly via wget, etc...

[edit] Special:Preferences
Hello, when I access Special:Preferences, the error text shown below is listed at the top of the page. However, all preference tabs seem to work fine and things are saving.
<b>Warning</b>: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in <b>/var/www/gentoo-wiki.com/htdocs/includes/SpecialPreferences.php</b> on line <b>777</b><br />
Thx — MrDolomite | Talk 14:17, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Same problem again (still?), 8 months later. - dcljr 16:23, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Printable Version
- When I go to print everything looks fine but once I hit the print button it puts in the google syndication ads and covers up my content. 2007-03-27 12:33 EDT.
[edit] Timeouts
on this page http://gentoo-wiki.com/index.php?title=HARDWARE_Gentoo_on_HP_Compaq_nx6325&diff=118727&oldid=118475 i got: "Reply 17/05/2007: This won't do it for me at all. If I call hibernate-ram it will suspend but never wake up anymore. Could you post a more detailed procedure of how you got it working? Your kernel config would be great... Maybe we can put some infos online, so everybody can get it working. I had it working fine before, but with the new kernel 2.6.21-suspend I'm running out of ideas...
