The category:Howto section is an alphabetical list of topics, which is a good thing... unfortunatly, most articles here are all grouped in the "H" letter catagory for HOWTO, because they all have "Howto" in their title.

Would it be a good idea to make new pages, redirect style pages TO the HOWTO pages with real titles; i.e. Autostart Programs is a redirect to HOWTO Autostart Programs... and let the alphabetized directory work?

No, it wouldn't. A redirect page can't be in a category. See Redirect: Creating a redirect (at Meta). It would require a rewrite of the MediaWiki software to either ignore the prefix "HOWTO" in sorting or allow category links on redirect pages. --AnMaster 16:39, 2 January 2006 (GMT)
